Flight

The little black bird
Reached the edge of the cliff,
Heart pounding with excitement,
His body turned stiff.
I can do it, I know it
I flew down that hedge.
But why am I shivering
To fly down this edge?

The fruit and the water
Lay tempting down below,
Little birdie remembered his grandpa,
‘you are my bravest little fellow’.
I know it’s not impossible
Sometimes you just have to dare!
It’ll hurt till you succeed,
But then again who cares?

So little birdie ran full speed for the edge,
Fluttering along, a deep breath he drew.
Down down the steep menacing ledge..
And success! How promising he finally flew!

Every time I see your face,

For me, it’s quite a treat.

And every time I hear your voice,

My heart, it skips a beat.

Your smile it lights up this entire land,

Your sparkling eyes do too.

And when you sing, it drives me numb,

Just by wanting more.

Sound-o-phobic Mom

The endless chatter in confined classrooms,
Television blaring with talkative morons,
Makes her, what her children would call,
Sound-o-phobic…

She hates to hear the buses screeching,
People screaming, Babies wailing,
Oh my god, she is, in scientific terms,
Akousticophobic

She orders some silence with a bit of screaming herself,
Closes her eyes, and imagines a quieter world
Where the thundering rain of cats and dogs
Is transformed now to a gentle pitter patter
The bangs, clangs and tangs are now gone,
What is present are whispers and shushes alone

She concentrates on hearing nothing,
Seeing nothing and feeling nothing,
She smiles at her newfound satisfaction of tranquility,
Peace at last she thinks

But after sometime, when the pause for silence is too long,
She misses that joy brought by her noisy kids.
Whats wrong with you lot today? she asks
Turns on the TV and Radio, all at the same time.

And now she demands some chatter,
From the quiet and confused minds.
One little kid whispers to the other,
I think mom is sound-o-phobic and now vice versa!
